Confession time: As hard as it is to admit this, before this lovely engagement session, I had never been to the Jewel Box.
😳😩😲 I know. How embarrassing.
I mean, I am a Saint Louisan, through and through. Born & raised, through thick and thin, through summers that felt like winter and winters that felt like summer and 99% humidity regardless, I have never claimed anything but this wonderful little city (warts and all, Missouri drivers, I’m looking at you!) as my home. Despite all of this, I never had the pleasure to visit the Forest Park highlight known as the Jewel Box. I’d heard of it plenty and how gorgeous it is, but never had had the chance to see it myself; until, of course, I met Elizabeth and Phil!! When Elizabeth suggested it initially, I did my best to hide my sheer excitement that I was finally going to get a chance to go and totally played it cool like I shoot there all the time, even though inside I was doing an awkward happy dance. And boy, it was entirely as promised! We had a beautiful and unseasonably (or seasonably, depending on how familiar you are with Missouri weather) warm day full of sunshine, during which I got to get to know Elizabeth and Phil and learn all about their story. What a treat! They are too cute together, and our session was full of smiles and laughter. We talked about awkward first encounters thanks for online dating, favorite vegetables and their plans for their destination wedding later this year. And, of course, Elizabeth’s gorgeous ring, which is an heirloom piece and an Art Deco dream come true. Even Phil’s hat had a special meaning in their relationship – it was an impulse by on the trip they took to Arkansas, where they got engaged, and hearing them recount the story of that moment was truly beautiful. You can tell from watching them together that they share a deep and meaningful connection and are just two peas in a lil’ old pod. Elizabeth and Phil, it was so great to get to know you guys better, and I can’t wait to hear all about your big day when you get back to town! Until then, enjoy some of this greenhouse-y goodness.
